Satyr Hedonist by chasestone Satyr Hedonist by chasestone
First officially released card from the upcoming Theros block. I really like this guy's mechanic, basically he parties SO HARD that he generates three mountains worth of mana, and then dies from the effort.

I was originally going to give him a much creepier smile but ended up toning it down a bit for the final, he's still got the slightly creepy, mischievous look going but he's a bit more conventionally handsome as well. Still not sure if I made the right choice.

The best thing I saw about this card was a friend's comment.
He joked that while in myth, Satyrs had big raging erections naturally they wouldn't put them in Magic art, but here you can totally see it in his eyes.

I prefer this smile a lot more tan the other. The other one is too creepy for this. I prefer this still mischievous but more calmed one. By the way, I'd love that you uploaded Karametra's Acolyte art. It's sooo lovely...

Love the horns, they're very different from the typical portrayal you see out there. Also, slick hairdo! :P

Still looks surprisingly creepy. :D I can only imagine the original version. This one is more like "I'm wearing my best rapist-smile today, so party with me." ^^

Amazing, though. Has good characteristics and detail which make it more alive. I can feel the warmth of the rays and hear the sound of the flora & fauna. All in all, it's nicely balanced with a touch of unique.

This picture would seem much more complete with a nymph kneeling in between his legs.

It's a shame it's green instead of red... It would fit perfectly in my dragon deck...

Wauh, you got some nice lighting going on here. The creepier face is awesome hah.
Those legs however is any anatomy teachers worst NIGHTMARE. A leg with 3 joints plus the hip joint, wohaa there cowboy.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure goats do in fact have three joints plus the hip joint.  But I can see how it might look weird here given that I elongated the uppermost portion quite a bit, I wanted it to resemble a human thigh in length.

You're right. I should've explained myself better. I meant to say that it's hard to draw that form of legs on a human.
The only thing that I could point to is perhaps the thigh part of the leg should perhaps have been shorter in order for the legs to be more functional.

Goats and horses and other four-legged creatures does indeed have their last joint so close up in their bodies that you don't really see it.

Again, I meant no disrespect. It would just be my worst anatomical nightmare because it's really hard to make believable Satyr legs :'D

While I like the creepy version, I do think you made the right call on toning it down for the final product.  Excellent work, at that.
